German health insurance for Azubis

This guide helps you choose the best health insurance for an apprenticeship (Ausbildung).

If you earn less than €325 per month, you get free public health insurance. Your employer pays for it.¹

If you earn more than €325 per month, you can only choose public health insurance.⁴ It costs 9.35% to 10.95% of your income (including Pflegeversicherung).² You can’t get free health insurance.³

You must choose a public health insurer. There are dozens of options, but their price and coverage are almost the same. Barmer and Techniker Krankenkasse are English-speaking options. Ask my insurance expert to help you choose.
