TÜV (Technischer Überwachungsverein) is the authority that inspects vehicles, elevators and many other things in Germany. They also run driving licence exams. Sometimes, people use the term TÜV for the vehicle inspection (Hauptuntersuchung) itself.
Dekra is another important German inspection authority.
