How to buy weed in Berlin

This guide explains how people usually buy recreational marijuana in Berlin.

Where to buy weed

Medical and recreational marijuana are legal in Germany. It’s hard to buy recreational marijuana legally, so people use other methods.

  • By prescription 
    It’s currently the easiest way to get weed. You get a prescription from an online doctor, and buy medical cannabis from an online pharmacy. It’s 100% legal. You can choose different strains, and you pay around €9 per gram.2 They also sell extracts and edibles.16
  • Online
    Websites like Leafz sell THC edibles.14 It’s easy and it works, but it’s in a legal grey area.
  • Your friends
    If you ask your friends, they will usually help you find a safe, reliable dealer.
  • Grow your own cannabis
    Growing is legal. Alchimia and Gas Station are good online shops for seeds.4 You can grow up to 3 plants at home.
  • Cannabis clubs
    Officially, it’s the only legal way to buy recreational marijuana. It’s not really worth it. There are only a dozen clubs in Berlin. They have long waiting lists, high membership fees, and many rules.15
  • Dealers on Telegram
    There are many Telegram groups you can join. It’s still a common way to buy weed in Berlin. They advertise on stickers with QR codes. These groups are illegal, and they often get shut down by the police.7 The quality of the weed varies a lot.
  • Dealers in parks
    Dealers sell low-quality weed in parks. Avoid this option. The weed is low-quality, and often laced with chemicals.

You can join a cannabis club to legally buy weed. It’s the only legal way to buy recreational marijuana. In practice, it’s almost impossible to join a club; they have long waiting lists. You must be a German resident for at least 6 months to join a local club, so tourists can’t buy weed from cannabis clubs.11

You can also get a prescription for medical marijuana.

Buying weed on Telegram

Many dealers sell weed and other drugs on Telegram. They advertise on stickers with QR codes. You can find those stickers everywhere in Neukölln, Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain. These Telegram groups often get shut down by the police.

Telegram dealers are better than park dealers, but they are still risky. There are a lot of bad dealers that sell bad products.6 Check your weed before you smoke it.

Usually, you set a meeting location. The dealer will start a secret chat to ask for more details. Some groups ask for a selfie to prove your identity, and for the driver to find you. When you end the secret chat, your photo is deleted.

When the driver is near you, they will message you. You usually sit in their car, and they drive a few hundred meters with you. You must give your money to the driver, get your weed, and leave. Be subtle when you do it.

Buying weed in parks

Dealers sell weed at Görlitzer park and Volkspark Hasenheide.1 Do not buy weed from parks. It is not safe. The weed is expensive, low quality and often laced with chemicals.5 The police often targets these parks.

If you still want to do it, it works like this:

  1. Talk to a drug dealer standing near the walking path. Dealers are easy to find. They are everywhere in the park. They sometimes approach you when you walk through the park. Avoid the dealers near the entrance, and choose dealers deeper in the park.
  2. The dealer will ask you what you want, then point to his friend who hides in the bushes. They usually speak English.
  3. His friend in the bushes will ask you how much weed you want. He will take some weed from a bag and put it in your hand. He will not use a scale, and you will not get a bag. You can sometimes negotiate and get a little more weed.
  4. Pay in cash, and leave. You must have the exact amount of money in your hand.
  5. Check your weed to see if it’s contaminated.

Check your weed

If you buy hash or weed from a dealer, inspect it before you smoke it. Weed is often contaminated with chemicals or synthetic cannabinoids.

Laced weed often has the wrong smell or texture. It might have a chemical smell or leave a black residue when it burns.3

Synthetic cannabinoids are also common.8 They are harder to detect.10 The high is shorter, stronger and less pleasant. It is addictive, and it can cause psychosis and withdrawal symptoms.9

Cannabis prescription

All doctors can prescribe cannabis, but few doctors do it.

You can get a medical prescription for cannabis online.12 It’s the easiest way to get medical marijuana. You book a video call with a doctor, pay around €50, and get a prescription for cannabis. You can renew your prescription for around €20.13

You can get a prescription from TeleCan, CannGo, DrAnsay or Algea Care. TeleCan and CannGo have good reviews. Algea has bad reviews.
