What is a Working Holiday Visa?

The Working Holiday Visa is a type of National Visa. It allows you to live and work in Germany for up to 1 year. It sometimes allows self-employment. You must be between 18 and 30 years old to apply.1

Only citizens of these countries can get a Working Holiday Visa:

  • Argentina
  • Australia
  • Brazil
  • Chile
  • Hong Kong
  • Israel
  • Japan
  • New Zealand
  • South Korea
  • Taiwan
  • Uruguay citizens

Canadian citizens can apply for a Youth Mobility Visa. It’s almost the same thing.

You must apply for the Working Holiday Visa at the Ausländerbehörde, or at the German embassy or consulate in your home country.
